Before entering Latin School, my grades had always been strong but I found myself in an environment in which intelligence and achievement tended to be ridiculed by other students. I recognized the need for a more challenging academic atmosphere that nurtured and supported student excellence. Latin School serves three different types of students generally: the innately gifted, the hard worker and the student who is both. Students are encouraged to put forth their best effort and both personal and academic accomplishments are highly valued in the School’s Mission but also in everyday life within the student body. The faculty are always willing to lend a helping hand. They make sure that you understand the material, while building up your self-confidence. Without their guidance and example, I would have been lost within a month. The curriculum at Latin School is vigorous and challenging, and I have to work hard to get good grades. However, my grades in CLS are better than in my previous school because I put more effort and time into my schoolwork. The teachers and curriculum are the reasons that I have earned the highest GPA in my class for two years running. More...

It is very difficult for me to envision a school that I would enjoy as much or in so many different ways, as Covington Latin School. The atmosphere is one of kindness, thoughtfulness and caring. The environment is intimate at CLS-our limited class sizes allow us to know one another on a much deeper level than a larger school would allow. The learning environment fosters confidence in voicing our opinions and respectfully and thoughtfully listening to the views of others. CLS cares very deeply about students’ ability to succeed inside and outside the classroom and its small size is reflected in the individualized attention we receive. More...

I knew practically no one when I arrived as a Prep. I was concerned about making new friends, keeping my old friends, keeping up with the schoolwork and all of the things that seem to accompany a new school. I realized very quickly that these concerns, while valid, were unfounded. CLS has students from everywhere-Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana with a variety of educational backgrounds: public, private and a growing number of home-schooled students. Despite our different backgrounds, we were united by the fact that we chose “the road less traveled” in pursuit of greater challenge and ultimately, greater reward. We belonged here. More...

I was not at the top of my class prior to attending CLS-I think there's a misconception that all our students are that way. I am fortunate to have gotten good grades through hard work but I wanted to be in a place where I was surrounded by motivated (and motivating) kids that would help take me to the next level. Students arrive at CLS from different places, at different ages and there's a lot of support from the faculty, from our families and from each other. The environment inside and outside the classrooms is much more cooperative than it is competitive. More...

We believe the curriculum, with its emphasis on language and the classics along with strong math and science coursework, amply prepared them for their college careers. Their spiritual faith was also nurtured during these critical years not only through daily prayer, the religion courses and weekly Mass but with many opportunities to serve in the urban community surrounding Latin School. They are blessed to be part of a school family that truly excels in its Motto: not only in knowledge and discipline but an overriding goodness. More...

Covington Latin offered our girls a chance to be the “smart girl” without feeling like she was an oddity. Here, all the students were gifted with the desire to learn and to achieve to the best of their ability. Everyone encouraged each other. Accomplishments are recognized and celebrated together in the school community. Activities for students and families create a sense of belonging. Wouldn’t it be great to work exclusively with really smart people? That is the educational environment of CLS; an outstanding, bright group of students and administration. CLS is excellent, urban and diverse. More...

Like most parents entertaining the idea of their child attending Covington Latin School, we were unsure if it was the right fit for our child. We were extremely impressed with the School’s commitment to student success and individualized attention. We can also say that his class is a close-knit group. They call each other with questions, hang out socially, and have even formed study groups for final exams, complete with a typed study guide! They are exposed to challenges not found in traditional schools and we watch in awe as they embrace them. More...

The faculty was top-notch; I can think of few educators I had in college or my post-graduate work that were better at teaching than those I had at CLS. Covington Latin was where I learned how to study and manage my time efficiently. This paid dividends in college and medical school since working hard and sifting through large quantities of information no longer seemed as intimidating. I have no reservations about recommending Covington Latin School for students willing to work hard to receive a high-quality, good-value education. More...

So many unique opportunities were available, allowing students to get involved in all aspects of the school and the larger community. I took something away from each of these experiences, and I think that offering is part of what makes CLS such a special place. I remember frequently seeing faculty cheering us on at athletic events, chaperoning extracurricular activities, and generally connecting with us outside the classroom. Even today, I still feel the support of these mentors both in my professional life and personal life, and it’s these relationships that I value the most from my years at CLS. More...

I had been given all the necessary tools to be a solid performer: excellent verbal and written communication skills, tremendous study skills and the discipline to remain focused on and committed to my education. My CLS experience proved invaluable as it instilled the willingness to achieve and succeed as an undergraduate and graduate student in business. Susan and I are now the proud parents of two successful CLS students-both of whom are having extraordinary experiences. We know there are many alternatives to Covington Latin School. But there are simply no substitutes. More...

Determined and hopeful, I entered Covington Latin School as one of the first females to walk the halls of such a renowned institution. While I became a scholar in English, math, and Latin, it was the unspoken skills that were being demonstrated that have most predominantly contributed to the person I am today. The experience I had at Covington Latin School played a distinctive role in my development both personally and professionally. Following graduation, I chose a career path that would allow me to utilize my abilities to improve the well-being of others. More...

I transferred in during my Freshman year and recognized right away the higher degree of intellectual excitement here. I’m entirely thankful for how it’s enriched my own love of learning. There is no standard to-the-book teaching here. Covington Latin requires one to be able to skip a grade, yet the drive to succeed here does not come from that. (The fact that given the option of taking AP® Calculus or Pre-Calculus, the majority of seniors chose the first is proof that no one here is forced to challenge themselves). The drive comes from a faculty who succeeds in getting their students to believe in learning as much as they do in teaching. More...
